Port of Kagoshima

The Port of Kagoshima is an important harbor located at Kagoshima City, the leading city in southern Kyushu. The port area extends some 20 km from north to south, with numerous docks busy with passengers travelling within the bay and to the offshore islands. Towering over the harbor and Kinko Bay is the impressive sight of the active volcano in Sakurajima Island. This scene has led some to call Kagoshima the "Naples of the East." Large cruise ships not only from Japan but from all over the world call at the Port of Kagoshima. To better accommodate these cruise ships, plans are under way to build a wharf capable of docking the very largest vessels in the central port area, the facility to be known as "Marine Port Kagoshima."
