Port of Miyanoura

The Port of Miyanoura is a regional harbor located on the northeast shore of Yakushima island. It is linked with Kagoshima and Tanegashima by scheduled ferry and high-speed jet foil service. The island has long been covered with "yaku-sugi" cedar trees and famous for their shipping from early years. Discovery of "Jomon-sugi" cedars and other giant trees growing there, along with designation of Yakushima as Japan's first World Natural Heritage in 1993, raised its international profile and now attracts numerous tourists. Many leading domestic cruise ships call at port, and people come to visit from all over the country.
