Public Announcement regarding FY2025 Nuclear Disaster Prevention Drill（Part 1）【English,Chinese,Korean,Vietnamese】

A Kagoshima Prefecture Nuclear Disaster Prevention Drill will be held beginning at 7 AM
today, organized by Kagoshima Prefecture, Satsumasendai City, Ichikikushikino City,
Akune City, Kagoshima City, Izumi City, Hioki City, Aira City, Satsuma Town, and
Nagashima Town.
Comprehensive training with the cooperation of citizens, national government, businesses,
etc. will be implemented in order to improve the disaster prevention awareness of local
residents and relevant agencies, based on the National Nuclear Emergency Response
Guidelines, pre-existing prefectural and municipal evacuation plans, etc.

During the drill, we will be conducting information dissemination drills in some areas
through the use of disaster prevention wireless broadcasts and cars with loudspeakers. We
ask for the understanding and cooperation of residents in these areas, as vehicles and
personnel involved will be actively training.

The training scenario is as follows:
At 2 pm today, an earthquake with a maximum shindo (seismic intensity) of 7 (M7.2) will
occur, which will trigger an automatic shutdown of Sendai Nuclear Power Station reactors
1&2, as well as a loss of all external power. Cooling of the reactors will be maintained by
the emergency power supply, but leakage of Unit 2 reactor’s primary coolant will occur.

Soon after, the amount of leakage will increase and the failure of some equipment
will result in the declaration of a Site Area Emergency. Subsequently, the failure and
shutdown of the emergency diesel generator will make it impossible for the emergency core
cooling system to inject water, which will place it under the General Emergency stage of
nuclear emergency.
